It wasn’t an easy rescue. The prince wasn’t out with the llamas on his own each day. There were a group of mean-faced guards around him all the time. But somehow, Chimpu’s father and brothers managed to sneak in while the guards were distracted, snatch the boy and hurry off.

It didn’t take long for the guards to realise what had happened and chase after them.

A fierce fight began, but Chimpu’s family won. Yawar was free! Hurray!

There was no time to celebrate, though. The father and brothers had to get Yawar to safety and so off they ran to their town. That left the guards pacing about anxiously and wondering what their master Tocay Capac would say when they told him Yawar had escaped.

The legend doesn’t say if Tocay punished his secondary wife Chimpu Orma for going behind his back. Maybe he never found out that her family had snatched the child and so she either got away with it, or he did know but he only punished her a little.

Whatever the case, at that point in time, Chimpu wasn’t afraid for her own safety. She was happy that her plan to rescue the prince had worked.

“Well, Chimpu,” her father said when they were all gathered at their home, “We have done what you wanted.”

“Yes, father, and I can’t thank you enough!” she replied with feeling.

“The point is: what should we do now?”

“Hmm… The first thing he needs is a wash and a good bowl of soup,” Chimpu decided…
